Guinea’s Supreme Court Confirms Doumbouya’s Victory
The announcement was made by Supreme Court President Fode Bangoura. The runner up, Abdoulaye Yero Balde, who secured 6.59% of the votes, chose to withdraw his legal challenge against the preliminary results.
Doumbouya’s triumph takes place under a newly ratified constitution, approved in a September referendum, which lengthened the presidential term from five to seven years and lifted restrictions that had previously barred military figures from contesting for office.
In a televised address after the ruling, Doumbouya declared: “Today, there are neither winners nor losers. There is only one Guinea, united and indivisible.”
He further urged citizens to “build a new Guinea, a Guinea of peace, justice, shared prosperity, and fully assumed political and economic sovereignty.”
This election marks Guinea’s first presidential vote since the September 2021 coup, when Doumbouya spearheaded the military operation that ousted then President Alpha Conde.
